The black and white rendering strips away distraction, drawing attention to the extraordinary abundance of patterned cloth stacked in every direction, swallowing the man almost entirely into his own wares. There is a dry humor in the stillness of this scene, a single human presence nearly consumed by the rhythms of everyday market life in Turkey.
