Perched on a gently rolling hillside in Slovenia, a small white church with a slender bell tower stands surrounded by ancient trees and sweeping green meadows as the first light of dawn washes the sky in warm shades of peach and gold. Layers of morning mist drift through the valleys below, softening the forested ridges and distant Alpine peaks into delicate silhouettes of blue and grey. The scene carries an extraordinary sense of calm and silence, as though the world beyond these hills has yet to stir. Photographer Thijs Friederich captures the quiet soul of the Slovenian landscape with a rare tenderness, finding in this solitary hilltop chapel a timeless moment of stillness and grace.
Based in the Netherlands, Thijs Friederich is a landscape photographer capturing epic scenes through wide-angle, macro and drone photography. Focusing close to home and during international travel, he uses color and perfect timing to transform natural landscapes with dramatic light.
