In the quiet hours before dawn a traditional Dutch windmill stands in perfect stillness above the glassy waters of Zaanse Schans, its silhouette and four great sails mirrored in the calm below. A soft veil of morning mist drifts through the surrounding trees as the sky glows in warm shades of peach and rose, wrapping the entire scene in a mood of deep calm and silence. Every element of this Netherlands landscape feels suspended in time, from the lone red buoy floating near the waterline to the faint call of a bird tracing the far horizon. Photographer Thijs Friederich finds beauty in these fleeting moments of stillness, capturing the soul of the Dutch countryside with quiet precision and an eye for light that turns the ordinary into something close to sacred.
Based in the Netherlands, Thijs Friederich is a landscape photographer capturing epic scenes through wide-angle, macro and drone photography. Focusing close to home and during international travel, he uses color and perfect timing to transform natural landscapes with dramatic light.
