Waves of deep crimson sand ripple across the ancient dunes of the Simpson Desert near Andado, glowing like embers beneath the last warmth of a setting sun. Sparse desert scrub clings to the ridgelines while a full moon rises quietly against a gradient sky shifting from burnt amber to cool blue. The vast Australian outback stretches silently to the horizon, its stillness broken only by the soft patterns carved into the sand by the wind. Photographer Alexander Riek captures this remote and breathtaking landscape with a rare patience, finding calm and silence in one of the most primal corners of the natural world.
Based in Germany, Alexander Riek is a photographer and animal scientist who travels globally. He captures the unique stories of destinations worldwide, focusing primarily on landscapes, architecture and wildlife.
