Slender birch trunks rise in tight formation against a deep darkness, their white bark marked with lichen and shadow in a quietly hypnotic rhythm. The composition strips the Finnish forest down to its bare essentials, a minimalist study in contrast where pale light and near-black depth create something almost abstract. There is a stillness here that feels ancient, as if the trees hold the silence of a long northern winter. Photographer Petter Rustad finds mystery in the details others walk past, distilling the wild heart of Finland into a single breathtaking frame.
