Perched dramatically atop ancient eroded cliffs, the white-walled Lamayuru Gompa rises against the vast layered mountains of Ladakh, its gilded spires catching the clear high-altitude light. The warm ochre tones of the surrounding rock blend seamlessly with the scattered village buildings below, while a deep blue sky and drifting clouds add depth and calm to this breathtaking scene. The composition captures the architecture in perfect harmony with its rugged landscape, radiating a profound sense of stillness and timelessness. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite brings an attentive and considered eye to India's most remote corners, revealing the quiet grandeur of sacred places with clarity and grace.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
