Photo description

Weathered lobster traps fill the foreground in soft focus as the calm harbour of St Monans opens up behind them, its still water reflecting the whitewashed and terracotta-roofed buildings that line the quayside. Small fishing boats sit quietly at their moorings beneath a wide blue sky scattered with wisps of cloud, lending this corner of Scotland an unhurried peaceful charm. The church spire rising above the rooftops and the Union Jack flag caught in a gentle breeze add quiet layers of detail to this beautifully composed architectural scene. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite captures the working soul of the Scottish coast with a steady and contemplative eye, finding calm and silence in the everyday rhythms of a harbour town.
