Photo description

From high above the Swiss Alps, Barry Crosthwaite captures the dramatic serpentine curves of the Maloja Pass as it winds through a dense canopy of dark evergreen forest in Switzerland. The aerial perspective reveals a hypnotic rhythm of hairpin bends carved into the mountainside, with vivid red and white cars threading their way along the pale grey ribbon of asphalt. The lush green forest presses in from every angle, amplifying the tension between raw nature and human engineering and filling the frame with a restless sense of energy and motion. Barry Crosthwaite transforms this alpine landscape into something almost abstract — a bold graphic study of movement, scale and the relentless human desire to conquer mountains.
