Hand-finished in our Foto Lab in Amstelveen.

A glowing lantern casts warm golden light across the cobblestone alleyway of Quedlinburg, where centuries-old half-timbered buildings lean close as if sharing quiet secrets in the evening stillness. The ornate wooden facades in cream and deep brown frame a narrow street that feels untouched by time, with amber light spilling from windows and softening the ancient architecture into something almost dreamlike. This corner of Germany holds a calm and silence that is rare in the modern world, every stone and beam telling stories of craftsmanship passed down through generations. Photographer Alexander Riek captures this architectural intimacy with a painter's sensitivity to light, finding beauty in the hush of an empty street where history breathes.

Based in Germany, Alexander Riek is a photographer and animal scientist who travels globally. He captures the unique stories of destinations worldwide, focusing primarily on landscapes, architecture and wildlife.
