Against a sun-bleached wall in the ancient medina of Essaouira, Morocco, dozens of vibrant handcrafted caps burst into color like a living mosaic of green, red, purple and gold. At the center of it all sits a white-bearded artisan in a traditional djellaba, calmly working with his hands, surrounded by stacked textiles and the quiet pride of a lifetime's craft. The warm golden light and joyful explosion of pattern and color capture everything that makes Moroccan street life so endlessly alive. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite finds beauty in these intimate human moments, turning a simple market corner into a portrait of dignity, tradition and pure joy.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
