Seen from directly above, this striking aerial image reveals a cross-shaped network of salt flat dividers cutting through richly colored evaporation ponds in shades of dusty rose, pale mint and soft chartreuse, with a solitary yellow harvesting machine parked at the intersection like a tiny brushstroke on a vast canvas. The weathered concrete channels and mineral-stained surfaces give the scene the quiet geometry of an abstract painting, calm and almost entirely still. This is the working landscape of Greece reduced to its most elemental forms, where industrial purpose and natural color collide in unexpected beauty. Photographer Giannis Giannelos brings a minimalist eye to the Greek saltworks, finding silence and order in a place most would never think to look.
Born in Athens, Greece, Giannis Giannelos became a professional photographer at 18. Having published dozens of photo books spanning cultural heritage and advertising, his true passion remains capturing architecture, geometry and the emotional freedom of nature.
