At sunset over the salt flats of western Sicily, a centuries-old windmill stands in quiet silhouette against a glowing amber sky, its latticed sails reaching upward as the still waters of the evaporation pans mirror the warm golden light below. The layered geometry of the salt pans draws the eye deeper into the scene, where distant trees and a rugged coastal headland fade softly into the haze. Barry Crosthwaite captures the calm and silence of this ancient Sicilian landscape with a painter's eye, finding beauty in the interplay of industry and nature as day slips gracefully into dusk.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
