Bundles of vivid chili peppers in blazing reds, deep greens and warm oranges are laid out in careful rows across a dark market surface in Tanzania, separated by thin wooden sticks that speak to the quiet order of daily trade. A loose pile of wrinkled scotch bonnets spills into the corner, adding a spontaneous burst of texture and color to an already rich and joyful scene. The overhead perspective draws out the natural beauty of this everyday moment, turning a market display into something close to folk art. Photographer Kaido Haagen finds poetry in the ordinary, capturing the culture and traditions of Tanzanian life with an eye for color and a deep respect for the rhythms of the people who live it.
