A pale grey wall dominates this quietly striking composition, its vast emptiness interrupted only by an ornate white window high in the upper corner and a small directional street sign planted in the lower left. The architectural detail of the window, crowned with delicate plasterwork, speaks to the character and elegance found throughout Portugal. The interplay between the grand and the incidental creates a gentle humor, a sense of order gently nudged off balance. Photographer Lorenzo Linthout captures the minimalist soul of Portuguese architecture with a precise and playful eye, finding stillness and wit in equal measure.
