Before sunrise, the eastern Sierra Nevada glows with the first warm light of dawn, casting amber and rose tones across the snow-dusted peaks while the rugged granite boulders of Alabama Hills burn a deep ochre in the foreground. The vast, cloudless sky deepens into a rich cobalt blue above the jagged ridgeline, creating a striking contrast that fills the scene with a profound calm and silence. Mount Whitney rises quietly in the distance, its craggy silhouette catching just enough light to reveal its commanding presence over this iconic stretch of the American West. Photographer Tom Stahl captures the landscape of the USA with patient precision, finding the fleeting moment when darkness and daylight negotiate — raw, still and breathtaking.
Based in San Francisco, Tom Stahl is an internationally exhibited landscape and travel photographer. Having explored over 60 countries, he left engineering to capture the world, blending technical precision with dreamlike compositions. He is also the author of Traveling Light.
