As dusk settles over Siena, the densely layered facades of this ancient Tuscan hillside city glow in warm amber and terracotta, their green shutters and lit windows creating a mosaic of quiet domestic life. The stacked rooftops of weathered brick and clay tile rise in a seemingly endless cascade, radiating the calm and silence of an evening at rest. Photographer Alexander Riek captures the architectural soul of Italy with an intimate precision, drawing the eye deep into centuries of history through rich color and carefully observed light.
Based in Germany, Alexander Riek is a photographer and animal scientist who travels globally. He captures the unique stories of destinations worldwide, focusing primarily on landscapes, architecture and wildlife.
