Across a vast Armenian plain of golden wheat, the ancient monastery of Khor Virap sits perched on a rocky hill as the snow-capped peak of Mount Ararat rises majestically through a soft haze in the distance. Warm amber light bathes the foreground while pale blues and dusty pinks wash the sky, creating an atmosphere of deep calm and silence. The composition draws the eye from the wild grasses below to the centuries-old stone church and onward to the iconic mountain that defines this landscape. Photographer Pepijn Thijsse captures Armenia at its most still and sacred, finding in this timeless view a quiet conversation between earth, history and sky.
