Amid the vast alkaline flats of the Nevada desert, a towering cluster of hand-built wooden lighthouses rises improbably from the dust, drawing crowds of wanderers who gather beneath their leaning forms against a sweeping dramatic sky. The warm weathered timber contrasts with pale sand and churning clouds, creating an atmosphere thick with mystery and the unmistakable spirit of Burning Man culture. Photographer Tom Stahl captures the raw tension between human creativity and the indifferent desert landscape, framing this fleeting American ritual with a quiet and compelling sense of wonder.
Based in San Francisco, Tom Stahl is an internationally exhibited landscape and travel photographer. Having explored over 60 countries, he left engineering to capture the world, blending technical precision with dreamlike compositions. He is also the author of Traveling Light.
