An erg is a broad, flat area of desert covered with wind-swept sand, a “sea of sand dunes”. Erg Chigaga in the Sahara Desert is the largest erg in Morocco. Deep in the middle of the dunes, two days' journey by jeep from Marrakech, is a safari camp run by a British expat and a local Berber tribesman. We spent four days there in 2015, hiking, riding camels, dune boarding, and climbing the hundred foot dunes each night to watch the sun set.
