Densely packed apartment facades crowd every edge of the frame as the iconic Yick Cheong Building in Hong Kong spirals inward toward a narrow sliver of pale evening sky, creating a dizzying tunnel of color and geometry. Warm amber light spills from hundreds of windows while weathered balconies and air conditioning units layer the scene in a vivid tapestry of urban life, the architecture both overwhelming and strangely beautiful. This is Hong Kong at its most raw and radiant, a city where density becomes its own kind of spectacle. Photographer Alexander Riek turns the overlooked corners of urban architecture into something joyful and electric, finding color and wonder in the magnificent chaos of the city.
Based in Germany, Alexander Riek is a photographer and animal scientist who travels globally. He captures the unique stories of destinations worldwide, focusing primarily on landscapes, architecture and wildlife.
