A dramatic sky of steel-blue clouds parts just enough to let soft light spill across the rolling green hills and ancient rock formations of the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye, casting the landscape in vivid emerald and gold. A small loch sits quietly in the valley below, perfectly still, mirroring the moody heavens above as the storm begins to lift and calm returns to this wild Scottish terrain. The composition draws the eye deep into the layered ridgelines of Scotland's most otherworldly landscape, where rugged basalt cliffs give way to sweeping grass-covered slopes that seem to stretch endlessly toward the horizon. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite captures that rare suspended moment between turbulence and silence, revealing the Isle of Skye not just as a place but as a living, breathing force of nature.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
