One cold December day I was in a small island temple in Wase, China. I came upon a group of men sitting around a table playing mahjong. I approached them with my camera and asked if I could take a picture. They responded that they were gambling, which wasn’t allowed in the temple, but I could photograph them as long as I left out their faces.
