Taken from high above the shallow reef, this aerial photograph reveals a fleet of traditional outrigger bangka boats scattered across the glassy turquoise waters of Panglao in the Philippines, their white frames casting delicate shadows over coral beds that shift from pale sand to deep ocean blue. The scene moves in quiet layers — bleached shoreline giving way to emerald shallows and finally the dark stillness of open water — creating a rhythm that feels both ancient and unhurried. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite captures the calm silence of this Philippine coastline with a painter's eye, transforming a simple gathering of fishing boats into a meditative study of color, pattern and place.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
