At low tide, the ancient golden cliffs of Ponta da Piedade in Portugal reveal a quiet world of moss-covered rocks and shallow tidal pools stretching toward dramatic sea arches and sculpted rock stacks. Warm dawn light floods in from the left, catching the vivid green algae and shimmering water in a scene of extraordinary stillness and natural beauty. The composition draws the eye deep into the landscape, where the open Atlantic glimmers between cathedral-like formations of eroded limestone. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite captures this coastal sanctuary with patience and reverence, finding calm and silence in a place where land, sea and light meet at their most elemental.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
