On a rainy morning in Quito, Ecuador, I was drawn to the repeating patterns of a pedestrian ramp. I waited, and a few minutes later saw a man nearby unfold a brightly colored umbrella. I found a spot with a clear view, out of the rain. I knew the rainbow would provide a sharp contrast with the muted colors of the wall. A few minutes later, he walked up the ramp.
