Photo description

Coiled fishing ropes and wicker creels sit in the foreground as a row of whitewashed and pastel-painted stone cottages line the quiet harbour square of a classic Scottish coastal village, their terracotta rooftiles glowing warmly beneath a pale cloudy sky. The soft pink, cream and white facades give the scene a gentle, joyful palette that feels both lived-in and quietly picturesque, with green doors and sandstone details adding depth to the composition. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite frames Scotland's architectural charm with an eye for everyday beauty, capturing the unhurried character of a working harbour town where history and colour meet the sea.
