At dusk, the illuminated domes and minarets of one of Istanbul's great imperial mosques rise against a deep blue twilight sky, their warm golden light casting a serene glow across the layered Ottoman stonework. The city stretches quietly into the distance, with the faint silhouette of the Galata Tower visible across the Bosphorus, anchoring this architectural masterpiece within the living fabric of Turkey. A sense of calm silence settles over the scene as the last light fades and the mosque holds its timeless presence above the darkening skyline. Photographer Barry Crosthwaite captures Istanbul at its most contemplative, finding in its ancient architecture a stillness that transcends the centuries.
Inspired by National Geographic, Barry Crosthwaite developed a lifelong passion for travel and photography. Following a business career, he turned full-time in 2021, capturing portraits, landscapes and street scenes guided by a pursuit of balance.
